Who is The Orphaned Republican? Nobody special. Just some guy making a living and trying to feed his family in flyover country. I'm not a writer, author, or pundit - just an American like most of you reading this. But more importantly, I'm a conservative. I believe in small government and fiscal conservatism, I am pro-life, I believe this is one nation under God*, and I am for a strong foreign policy. I believe Muslim extremists want us dead and that there is a real threat to innocent Americans. So, as you can see, I am a conservative - not libertarian. I created this Blog because I don't believe the republican party represents my principles.
Does this mean I like liberals? In the political sense, no - not really. Their platform is to take my hard earned money and redistribute it. My problem is that republicans are no different - they just lie about it.
If you are a fellow republican like me who thinks the republican party has abandoned us, you will quickly see the point of this Blog - my mission is to expose the frauds and phonies who make up the leadership of our party and hold them accountable. Quit apologizing for bad behavior because democrats are worse - that only makes us no better than liberals. So no, we won't do much bashing of liberals - there are plenty of websites that do that. Instead, I will be hard on people who champion conservative/republican causes while showing their true lack of principle.
Collectively, if we can highlight their misdeeds and lack of principles, maybe they'll quit doing it. But our voices are small when compared to Fox News and talk radio. These are the cheerleaders that have become part of the problem - not part of the solution. The bottom line is, they all profit from failure.
Here's why I consider myself to be an "orphaned republican" and why I don't want to be associated with today's republican party:
1. There are no true conservative leaders holding political office. Instead, the party is led by Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh, teabaggers, and the nitwits at National Review who use propaganda and the gullibility of their listeners/readers to sell commercials and ad space. These same "leaders" couldn't muster the outrage they have now while the republican house, senate, and white house spent money like there was no tomorrow. When people like me objected, we got called "seminar callers" or RINOs. All of these entertainers (including NRO - they are infotainment now) deliberately mis-characterize the issues to make more money knowing that people are stupid enough to take them seriously.
2. They allow actions by republicans that they would never tolerate if a democrat did it. People would have been impeached and sent to jail if the parties were reversed over the last decade.
3. They say waterboarding isn't torture. And torture is ok as long as we are the ones doing it. We can have lawyers file legal briefs justifying our exceptions to the Geneva Conventions, but our enemies can't. See #2
4. Outs CIA agents for political gain. See #2.
5. Nation building. You can't accidentally be 100% wrong about every single facet surrounding Iraq when you have unlimited resources at your disposal. The republicans wanted Saddam out. Fine, I get it. But it's illegal to overthrow governments unless it's self-defense. So, it's true - they lied and people died. See #2.
6. Collectively, republicans are so cowardly that they allow people with $100 worth of boxcutters or $50 worth of propane tanks and a pack of firecrackers make them shit their pants. And they think it is a good strategy to fight terrorists "over there" - a place where they can assimilate and be harbored by the local populace - instead of here where they have difficulty hiding. Here, brothers turn in brothers (e.g. Unabomber) if you are a murdering monster. I have the courage to fight them here. It would be a short lived "battle" because America would be completely uninhabitable for Muslims within two weeks. Tada! Problem solved - war over with no investment. The second amendment takes care of the problem on it's own.
7. Believe in the "trustworthy terrorist" theory (what got us into Iraq). They believe a world leader - who is as power hungry as Nancy Pelosi or John Boehner - would give the power to destroy his own country to a terrorist with the intent of damaging us. They believe it is plausible that Saddam Hussein would give WMD to a terrorist and the terrorist would transport it 10,000 miles away to kill Americans. Versus say, going nowhere and demanding more money and power using the WMD as the tool to get what they want - all without even leaving their backyard. Or making sure Saddam's fingerprints were all over it, detonating the WMD, and watching Iraq get vaporized in 20 minutes. WMD is one helluva blackmail tool. No world leader has ever went there and no world leader is foolish enough to go there. They need their power just like the numbnuts who hold elected office here. Dictators would not be dictators if they gave WMD to terrorists and the terrorists destroyed one of the dictator's cities. The entire premise is nuts.
8. Have no faith in our democracy. They think America cannot survive an Obama presidency. They think our forefathers were so incompetent, that they never thought liberals could control the house, senate, and white house thus destroying life as we know it.
9. Have no faith in our judicial system. They think our courts and court system can handle Timothy McViegh, but can't handle a functional retard that couldn't set his foot on fire.
10. Believe "military" and "intelligence" could somehow exist in the same sentence. As in, "military intelligence is wiretapping our phones, so don't worry - we will only listen to calls from suspected terrorists". Anybody with 10 minutes of time in the military (4 years in the USMC for me) knows this is absurd.
11. Have to go back two generations to Nixon to find a president who cut taxes and cut spending. None have existed since then and no politician in modern history has/had any intention of doing what Nixon did. Teabaggers are demanding something the republican party has only delivered once in modern history and that was almost 40 years ago. But Obama is a socialist because he's not doing it!
12. Stood by - and helped re-elect George W. Bush - while Bush ran the country completely into the ground. In fact, the numbers don't lie - in modern times, democrat presidents have been more fiscally responsible than republicans.
13. Are not on speaking terms with the truth. They would rather use deceit and fear to get your vote instead of what should be a better political platform. Go to politifact.org (pulitzer prize winning and non-partisan fact checking site) and try to find a true statement made by Michelle Bachman. I rest my case.
14. They call me a RINO because I demand principles from republican leaders. I expect the republican party to be better than the democrat party, but the only things I hear are comparisons to democrats (Clinton did it!) to justify their actions.
15. For seven years after 9/11 - with control of the house, senate, and white house - they made no effort to secure our borders. They cling to the most retarded argument of all - illegals do the job nobody wants to do and it would hurt the economy. As if LEGAL immigrants would never take those jobs. Here's the logic: "Hey, Pedro! Nice swim over the Rio Grande! Want to pick tomatoes for me?" Pedro: "Sure!". In our alternate universe: "Hey Pedro, I see you've waited your turn for entry into our country and are on the path to become a citizen. Want to pick tomatoes for me?" Pedro: "f*ck you gringo - I'm working for NASA!". But seriously, the party that says nobody but republicans can protect us are like people calling the police to take care of the daily criminal behavior in their neighborhood, but never lock their doors. And they claim to be "better" at national security.
No offense, but if you think the republican party is any better than the democrat party, you're an idiot.
* This doesn't mean I'm a bible-thumping fundamentalist. However, I do believe America was founded as a Christian nation where the religion of your choice is protected by our Constitution. While there clearly should be a separation of church and state, I'm not sure we have to scrub all hints of religion from anything having to do with the government.
